OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant designed to run on your own devices and interact through the communication channels you already use. Its local-first Gateway acts as the control plane for conversations, sessions, tools, channels, and events, while the assistant can be reached through services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal, iMessage, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, and a built-in WebChat.

The project supports multiple AI providers and compatible endpoints, including models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, OpenRouter, and others. Beyond chat, OpenClaw includes multi-agent routing, browser and automation tools, scheduled jobs, skills, voice features, companion apps, and a live visual Canvas. Agents can be separated into their own workspaces and sessions, making the system suitable for users who want a persistent assistant rather than a single chat interface.

OpenClaw emphasizes user control and self-hosting while providing security features for assistants connected to real messaging services. Unknown direct-message senders can be restricted through pairing and allowlists, and non-primary sessions can be sandboxed. The project provides onboarding and daemon-based operation for macOS, Linux, and Windows, with optional companion experiences for desktop and mobile devices.
