PDFMathTranslate is an open-source document translation tool designed specifically for scientific and technical PDFs. Its main goal is to translate text while preserving the original document structure, including mathematical formulas, charts, tables of contents, annotations, and other layout elements that are often damaged by generic PDF translation workflows.

The project supports multiple languages and translation services and can be used through a command-line interface, graphical interface, Docker deployment, Windows application, online demos, and a Zotero integration. Newer development includes a redesigned translation kernel and ongoing work on model and platform compatibility, while version 2 development has moved into a dedicated successor repository.

PDFMathTranslate is especially useful for researchers, students, engineers, and academics reading papers written in unfamiliar languages. Instead of extracting plain text and losing the visual context of equations and figures, it aims to produce a translated document that remains close to the original PDF, making technical reading and cross-language literature review substantially easier.
