Overview
MockingBird is an open-source voice-cloning project focused heavily on Chinese speech while also supporting broader real-time voice-cloning workflows. It builds on the encoder, synthesizer, and vocoder approach popularized by Real-Time Voice Cloning and adds adaptations, datasets, tooling, and deployment guidance intended to make the system easier to use for Mandarin speakers.
The project supports training or reusing speaker encoders and vocoders while training a new synthesizer, and it includes desktop tooling and a web-server option for generating speech remotely. Documentation covers Windows, Linux, and Apple Silicon environments, with PyTorch-based installation guidance and workarounds for older dependencies and platform-specific compilation issues.
MockingBird is useful mainly as a research and experimentation codebase for voice cloning, custom speech synthesis, and Chinese TTS. The repository is no longer actively maintained, so modern users should expect dependency friction and should treat it as an older but influential implementation rather than a current production speech platform.
