Overview
Grok is xAI’s AI assistant designed for conversational research, reasoning, coding, content creation, and multimodal work. It combines chat with web-connected tools, file handling, code execution, voice conversations, image and video generation through Imagine, and support for projects and specialized agents. Recent releases have expanded Grok beyond a traditional chatbot into a broader workspace where users can analyze files, generate and edit media, create documents and spreadsheets, work with code, and organize ongoing projects.
Grok also includes productivity and automation capabilities for more complex workflows. Connectors allow users to work with services such as Google, Outlook, GitHub, and X, while Skills provide reusable instructions and expertise that can be applied across conversations. Automations can run instructions on schedules or respond to events such as matching emails, and project workspaces can combine conversations, files, instructions, automations, diagrams, spreadsheets, and other resources. Grok Build extends the platform toward developers with an interactive terminal interface, plugins, skills, headless execution, and support for building bots and orchestrators.
For creative work, Grok Imagine provides image generation, image editing, video generation, video extension, upscaling, and an agent-powered creative canvas for iterating on visual ideas. Voice mode supports spoken conversations and mobile screen sharing, while Grok’s broader multimodal capabilities include video uploads, PDF and Office file previews, and generated-media workflows. Overall, Grok has evolved into a general-purpose AI platform that combines conversational assistance, research, coding, creative generation, connected applications, projects, and automated workflows in one environment.
